Library Director

MECHANICSVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY

LIBRARY DIRECTOR

Main Duties: Under the general supervision of the Mechanicsville Public Library Board of Trustees the library director, plans, coordinates, supervises and participates in the operation of the Mechanicsville Public Library according to local, State and federal directives. Responsible for all operations of the library. Works with the staff and Board members to formulate future plans for the library, develop policies, plan programs and provide services to people of the community.

Cooperates with County, Regional, and State libraries to promote good services and programs in libraries everywhere. Supervises library staff including volunteers.

Minimum Education or Experience Required: A high school diploma/GED combined with five to six years related library, management, and/or customer service experience and/or training is required.

Preferred Education or Experience: Bachelor’s degree combined with two or more years related library, management, and/or customer service experience and/or training is preferred.

Other Requirements: A strong familiarity with standard office software, graphic design software, and technology is required. Must possess strong organizational skills, decision-making ability and must demonstrate effective communication skills. The applicant must have or obtain the Iowa Public Library Endorsement within two (2) years of hiring.

Full-time, hourly position with occasional evening and weekend hours. Salary $20.00 per hour, based on experience. Benefits through the City of Mechanicsville.
